President Bola Tinubu on Friday, met with the former governor of Kano state, Rabiu Kwankwaso, at the presidential villa in Abuja.

About two weeks before his inauguration as president, Tinubu met with Kwankwaso for four hours in Paris, France.

Both men discussed the potential involvement of Kwankwaso in Tinubu’s administration, with the latter planning to form a “government of national unity”.

They also spoke on issues around the election of the national assembly leaders ahead of the June 13 inauguration.

Kwankwaso had, in principle, agreed to join Tinubu’s government subject to consultations with the stakeholders on both sides.

During the meeting, Tinubu was also said to have expressed concern over the strained relations between Abdullahi Ganduje, former governor of Kano state, and Kwankwaso — and promised to broker peace between them.

Ganduje was deputy to Kwankwaso when he was governor of Kano from 2011 to 2015 but they eventually fell apart.

Tinubu won the February 25 presidential election with 8,794,726 votes, beating Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who had 6,984,520.

Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP) polled 6,101,533 votes while Kwankwaso secured 1,496,687 votes
