The House of Representatives has summoned the Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Health Sciences, Ila-Orangun, Prof. Akeem Lasisi, and the sacked Dean of Basic Medical Sciences, Prof. Tijani Adekilekun.

The Green Chamber, through its Committee on University Education, was intervening in the crisis rocking the university, following the sack of Adekilekun and the suspension of service by medical lecturers of the institution who were protesting the reported maltreatment of their colleague.

In a letter sighted  on Wednesday, the committee said it was disturbed by the development and was ready to address the issue in order to forestall a possible breakdown of law and order.

The committee instructed the VC to appear with Adekilekun and furnish the chamber with a written response to the allegations levelled against them.

The letter marked NASS/10HR/CT.135/UE/UM/VI/29/006 partly reads: “The Committee is disturbed that this development is coming at a time when the government is making concerted efforts to address the brain drain issue, and in view of the fact that the institution is new and academic activities have just taken off which is capable of creating bad precedence.

“In view of the foregoing and in order to forestall any possible breakdown of law and order, the degradation of the matter to evolve into a serious academic disorder, and the likely loss of the already depleted number of medical personnel in the country, the committee has resolved to wade into the matter by inviting you for a meeting to come along with the Professor in question.

“You are also required to give your perspective in writing confirming or refuting the allegations by providing the true position with documented evidences where necessary on the matter.”

It was gathered that both the VC and Adekilekun appeared before the committee yesterday in Abuja.
