  • Police officers have attacked ENDSARS protesters in Lagos.

THE NATION REPORTERS reports that the Nigeria Police Force has attacked and fired tear gas to disperse EndSARS protesters who currently are converging at the Lekki Toll Gate to hold the 2nd memorial procession for victims of October 2020 shooting at the toll gate.

The footage on Arise TV’s morning show captured the moment the police shot tear gas into the air to disperse the protesters.

The TV station on-site journalist, Oba Adeboye was being harassed by men of the force deployed from the Lagos State Police Command.

Meanwhile, a police officer had earlier disclosed plans to arrest anyone who stops at the Lekki tollgate during the #EndSARS procession.

It was gathered that the police officer who pleaded anonymity was reported to have said “as long as they do not stop, we shouldn’t have a problem, because the agreement is that they don’t stop.

“But the moment anybody stops that person will be picked up and locked up in the van.”

EndSARS was a decentralised series of mass protests against police brutality, especially members of the disbanded Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) of the force.

The now disbanded unit was notorious for abusing Nigerian citizens.

During the October 20, 2020 protest at the Lekki Toll Gate, men of the Nigerian Army reportedly opened fire on the unarmed protesters, allegedly killing some of them.
