Anambra Elders Forum of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has appealed to President Bola Tinubu to give the people of Southeast an additional slot in his ministerial list.

The elders, while briefing reporters Saturday in Awka, said the President should remember the sacrifices some of the party members made during the struggle to make the party solid in the zone. The struggle, according to the elders, claimed the lives of some of the party faithful.

Chairman of the elders’ forum, Chief Innocent Obi, said though the party did not win in the Southeast during the presidential election, the APC members succeeded in not allowing other parties to write figures that could have given them victory.

Obi said they were not faulting the President’s choices for the ministerial slots, adding that they were only asking for fairness and justice from the President. According to him, “We can endure one but for three, it’s unbearable. Ndigbo contributed during the election.

“Some of our members, during the formation of the party, moved from Damaturu to Borno, Sokoto, to other areas.

“At a time, Dr Chudi Nwike, AC southeast coordinator, and former deputy governor was kidnapped and killed, Chief Alex Anielo , founding chairman of ACD, died on his way to Kaduna.

“We plead with our own Jagaban to reconsider our plight in the Southeast by raising the number. Southeast should be brought at par with other zones in the country,” Obi said.

Other elders like Obi Onwuachu-coordinator Anambra Central, Mrs Obiageri Orah and J C Okeke, also lent their voices on the issue.

They said the Southeast had only five while other zones had about 8-9 slots, which according to them was unfair to Ndigbo.

Mrs Obiageri Orah commended the President on his choice of appointing over seven females in his cabinet.

She described Tinubu as a detribalised Nigerian, adding, “we’re looking up to him to balance the equation, election has gone.”
